What’s At Stake:

Five Public Policies That Create Generational Conflicts:

  1. COMPETITION: American companies are losing their competitive edge in global markets because of policies that stifle innovation; fail to protect intellectual property rights of innovators; and onerous regulations and taxes that strip American companies of the ability to compete in world markets.
  2. RETIREMENT SECURITY: Congress refuses to enact a rational Social Security fix that protects existing beneficiaries and near-term retirees with current benefits; gives incentives for Boomers to create retirement savings to reduce reliance on Social Security benefit; and provides real retirement options for Generations X and Y.
  3. IMMIGRATION: Republicans and Democrats are in a race to pass an immigration plan to give citizenship to millions of Mexican aliens illegally living in the United States in an effort to win the votes of Hispanics. The focus should be on allowing a guest worker program to employ workers needed in the American economy, and an expansion of the H-1 Visa Program to allow American companies to hire the best and brightest skilled workers to enhance their ability to compete in global markets.
  4. ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE: Health care should be affordable and accessible to every American. The free-market based health care delivery system in America has and can continue to deliver high-quality health care. The government needs to assure all generations have access to it.
  5. NEW JOB CREATION: New job creation is a better public policy option that increasing taxes to pay for those out of work. America needs to jump start its economy with a focus on creating jobs rather than just seeking to redistribute wealth from the rich to fund welfare programs for those losing ground to a shrinking job market or ever increasing inflation. That kills job creation and expands the number of families needing public welfare programs to survive.
